Trial and License Activation

BackupOnShutdown includes a 14-day trial that starts when you first use the app. In that time you can set up a backup, run it, and restore a file. A license is a one-time purchase for one named person, on any number of that person's own computers, and the pricing page shows the price in your currency. Licenses are sold to customers in the EEA, the United Kingdom, and Switzerland, in EUR, GBP, or CHF. The free trial works everywhere.

How does the trial show the time left?

Open Settings to see the days left above the panels, for example Trial: 14 days left. You can enter your key there, or choose Buy to open the pricing page.

With five days or fewer remaining, and after expiry, the window shows an UNLICENSED watermark. A purchase reminder can also appear once a day.

After 14 days, you need a license to create new backups, including with Back up & shut down. You can still browse and restore previously saved files in the app.

How do I activate a license key?

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Paste the full key from your purchase email into the field that reads Enter your license key (BKUP-...). BackupOnShutdown keys start with BKUP-.
  3. Choose Activate.
  4. Open About and check Licensed to: followed by the email from the purchase.

The license key is not the password that protects a backup. Keep the purchase email, because you'll want that key when you set the app up on another of your computers. Activation works offline. Once the key is accepted, the trial band and watermark disappear.

What if the key is rejected?

An empty field asks Please enter a license key, and if the app can't accept what you pasted it shows the reason under the field. An incomplete key can produce Invalid license format, so copy the whole key again, including BKUP-, and make sure it's the BackupOnShutdown key rather than a key for another product. Don't put the receipt, your email address, or the backup password in that field.

If it still fails, write down the exact message and contact support from the email address you used at purchase, without posting the full key in public.

How many computers does one license cover?

One license covers one named person on any number of their own computers, such as a desktop and a laptop. Two people need two licenses, and one person's key is not an office license for everyone else.

You pay once rather than on a subscription, and updates within your license are included. A future major version may be sold separately, and if you don't buy it your license keeps working with the last version you're entitled to use. You can read the full Licence agreement under Settings → About. A lost backup password can't be recovered through license support; see the password guide.

BackupOnShutdown 1.0 runs on 64-bit Windows 10 and 11 and on macOS 13 or later with Apple Silicon. The same license covers your computers on both systems.

What does Deactivate do?

Under About, Deactivate returns the app to trial mode after your confirmation. It doesn't start a new 14-day trial. You don't need to deactivate one of your own computers to use your license on another of your own computers, and your saved backups stay at their locations.

How do I get a lost key back, or a refund?

To recover a lost BackupOnShutdown key, write to office@spqrk.net from the email address you used at checkout and ask for the key to be sent again.

If you change your mind about the purchase, email that same address within 14 days of purchase, from the checkout address, and the full purchase price is refunded.

If BackupOnShutdown suits your routine, buy a license. Or download the app to try it free for 14 days — no account or credit card required.
